FAQs
Are Duspro Mosses made of Real Moss?
A. Yes, all Duspro Mosses are 100% Real, All-Natural Moss.
How long will the moss last?
A. The longevity of our preserved mosses depends on how it is handled and where it is used. Exposure to the elements such as the sun, UV light, and heat will cause color fading and shorten the lifetimes of natural products. Typically, the lifespan of preserved moss ranges between 2 to 10 years in ideal conditions. A preserved moss wall that remains untouched by sunlight, moisture, or human hands can stay looking lush and vibrant for years to come.
How do I use the vacuum-sealed moss?
A. To use, simply soak the moss block in water until it expands, then gently separate it by hand. Don’t worry if the water turns green during soaking, the green dye is made from natural plant leaves-based pigments and is 100% safe. Please wear gloves when handling, and soak the moss in a dark container, ideally outdoors. Though compressed to maintain its quality, color, and reduce waste, the moss will expand to its full size once soaked . Remember to let it dry fully before use.
The moss has an odor. Is this normal?
A. The product is made from natural forest moss, which has a characteristic natural smell. It may be more noticeable due to the airtight packaging, but the smell will fade over time. For faster dissipation, we recommend placing the product in a well-ventilated area.
I can't find the plastic stick that comes with the moss pole. What should I do?
A. The plastic stick may be stuck inside the moss pole during transit. Simply turn the pole upside down and tap it firmly on the ground to release the stick. Then, insert it back into the pole and place it into the soil as usual. For a visual guide, please refer to the attached instructions or scan the QR code to watch the video tutorial.
The moss pole is unstable and wobbles. How can I fix this?
A. To improve stability, make sure to insert the bottom part of the pole deeply into the soil. If it’s still unstable, there may not be enough soil to hold it firmly, consider using a larger pot or adding more soil, rocks, or sand to secure it. For the upper part, don’t worry, once your climbing plant grows and wraps around the pole, it will naturally reinforce its stability. I hope this information helps!
How do I straighten the bendable moss pole?
A. To straighten the moss pole, locate the bent area, hold both sides of the bend with your hands, and gently bend it in the opposite direction.
Why is the forest moss not green but rather yellowish or brown?
Our forest-dried moss is harvested entirely from nature, so its color may vary depending on the season and climate conditions at the time of collection. Sometimes, theforest moss appears light green, but it can also turn yellow or brown. This is a natural characteristic and does not affect the quality or moisture-retaining ability of the product.
Why does the forest moss have a distinctive smell after being soaked in water?
Forest moss has a characteristic scent that becomes more intense when soaked in water. If you are sensitive to smells, consider the following suggestions:
- Limit watering the moss.
- Use tea tree essential oil to neutralize the scent.
- Place the moss in a well-ventilated area, avoiding enclosed spaces.
- If you must keep it in an enclosed space, leave it outdoors for a few days to reduce the odor, then follow step 1 or 2.
Why does the dried forest moss seem smaller than expected, and how should it be used?
Our moss is sun-dried and vacuum-sealed to ensure quality, making it compact and easy to transport. As a result, when you receive the product, it may appear smaller than expected. Don’t worry! Follow these simple steps to use the moss effectively:
🔹 How to use:
- Gently separate the moss by hand after opening the package.
- If the moss feels too dry and difficult to handle, lightly mist it with water to soften it for easier use.
- Soak the product directly in water. Once fully absorbed, the moss will expand significantly, increasing in size and volume multiple times compared to its dry form.
How should dried forest moss be stored for long-term use?
- Store in a dry, well-ventilated place, away from high humidity to prevent mold growth.
- Avoid exposing the moss to direct sunlight for extended periods before use, as this may reduce its natural elasticity.
- Do not pre-moisten or water the moss before storage, as moisture can encourage mold formation.
- If you have unused moss left, make sure it is completely dry before storing it, ensuring optimal quality and longevity.
The green forest moss looks small, will it be enough?
Our green forest moss is compressed to ensure quality, preserve color, and reduce waste. Rest assured, 5oz of vacuum-sealed moss can expand up to 4.5 quarts or covering an area of 0.4m² with moss or filling 3 pots of 6 inches... Follow our instructions, and you'll see the moss expand to its full size after soaking.
The green forest moss has a strong smell. Will it fade away?
The moss is made from natural forest moss, which has a characteristic natural smell of forest moss when first opened, but it will fade once aired out. If you're sensitive to smells, avoid spraying water on the moss and keep it dry.
Is green forest moss real or artificial? Is the green dye safe?
This is 100% natural forest moss, dyed to achieve a vibrant green color using plant-based ingredients, completely safe for both people and pets, so you can feel confident that it’s safe for use.
Why Won’t My Moss Pole Stand Upright?
To ensure stability, select a moss pole suitable for your plant’s size. Here are some solutions:
- Method 1: Insert the base spike deeply into the soil and press firmly around it to secure the pole (ensure the base is fully covered with soil).
- Method 2: If instability persists, wrap jute rope around the base spike to increase its thickness, improving stability.
- Method 3: Insert a small piece of foam at the base to expand the contact surface with the soil, making the pole more secure.
Why Does the Moss Pole Smell After Watering?
Moss poles are made from natural forest moss, so they have a distinct scent, which can become stronger when soaked in water. If you are sensitive to smells, consider the following tips:
- Minimize watering the moss pole.
- Use tea tree essential oil to help neutralize the moss’s scent.
- Place it in a well-ventilated area and avoid enclosed spaces.
- If you must keep it in an enclosed space, leave it outdoors for a few days to let the scent dissipate, then follow step 1 or 2.
If the orchid potting mix is separated into distinct layers, should I mix it beforeplanting?
Yes. Before planting, it’s best to mix all the layers thoroughly to ensure even distribution and adjust the ratio according to your pot size. This helps the plant absorb nutrients more effectively, creating optimal conditions for healthy growth.
The orchid potting mix seems smaller and less than expected
Our product is measured by volume, not weight. Since moss is very light but takes up a lot of space, measuring by weight may not provide accurate results. We have carefully measured each pack using specialized tools to ensure it matches the description. Each 1-quart bag is enough for two 4-inch orchid pots or one 6-inch orchid pot, so you can use it with complete confidence.
